The most expensive dog breeds to insure are these ones

The most expensive dog breeds to insure in the UK have been revealed, with English Bulldogs coming out on top.

New research by insurance specialists, A-Plan Insurance, found that these flat-faced dogs will cost owners an average of £66.50 a month (£798 annually) to insure. Sadly, due to suffering from brachycephalic syndrome, this breed has long-term breathing problems as well as difficulty cooling down in warm weather.

French Bulldogs came in second place, costing £54.73 each month (£656.76 a year). Meanwhile, German Shepherds took the third spot, setting owners back £38.15 a month (£457.80) due to their health issues such as Hip Dysplasia.

Elsewhere, Labradors, Golden Retrievers and English Springer Spaniels all made the top 10. Despite being much-loved breeds, these dogs suffer with severe health issues which can make them expensive to insure.

"Across the UK, 10 million households own a dog – they make loyal companions, reduce loneliness, and can generally improve our quality of life. Not to mention, daily dog walks increase physical activity, therefore benefitting our physical health," a spokesperson from A-Plan Insurance said.

"It's vital to consider the additional costs when owning a dog. While you may have the perfect dog breed in mind, the cost of insurance can vary across breeds due to things like hereditary conditions. So, it's important to consider the price of insurance and not just the cost of the pet itself to ensure that it won’t set you back too much."
